As well as being experienced applicators of micro cement materials, applicArt are also the UK’s sole supplier and distributor of Easyfloor micro cement.

What is it, where do I use it, and can I do it myself? Those questions will all be answered in the article.

    So what is Micro Cement?

Micro cement is a cement based material that is used to seal and cover existing flooring, walls ceilings and other surfaces such as bar tops, work surfaces and tables. Its main benefits include the aesthetics, the longevity, variety of colours and its cleanliness.

    The aesthetics

Micro cement is chosen by interior designers and architects from all over the world because it has the edge on other screed and cement due to its modern and stylish looks.

Some of its main properties are the fact that it has a high resistance to abrasion (5 times higher than that of concrete), It is very resistant to weight, permanent footprints, friction, shock, high, anti-slip, temperatures, water, moisture and to ultraviolet.

Lots of examples see micro cement being used in high traffic areas since it bears weight so well. It also copes very well against fluctuating heat and water. Perfect for Saunas and Steam rooms.

    Variety of colours

There are more than 1500 customised colours, and 50 standard colours available to choose from.

No debris is created during the application meaning no cleaning to do at the start or end.  The application of the micro cement is a clean, quick process, one of the reasons people prefer it over normal cement or concrete.

It is very easy to maintain and keep clean. The cleaning is a simple process, just a mix of mild soap and water will work best for cleaning the floor on a daily basis, in high traffic areas you can weekly use the Easyfloor cleaner product that will help with degreasing, leaving the floors clean and shiny. To ensure the micro cement’s long lasting qualities, every couple of months apply the EasyFloor Refresher product, this is a polish that should be applied once the floor is clean and dry, this specially formulated product is hand applied helping maintain the products high performance.

    Where can I use it?

Micro cement can be used in various different places. It performs well in high traffic areas so can cope well in hallways and showrooms. Its weatherproofing means it is perfect for decorative courtyards, gardens and its aesthetics make it perfect for inside homes working well in feature rooms, kitchens and living rooms.

In the past, we have seen micro cement used in a lot of different ways and it never seems to disappoint. It always looks modern and stylish. Here a few of our favourite examples over the last 12 months.

    Can I do it myself?

The answer is YES! 4. Micro Cement instead of Tiles!!

Are you tired of cleaning the grime from your bathroom tiles??If yes, then we have the solution – EasyFloor Micro Cement can be applied on to almost every surface (even your tiles). This being your walls, ceilings, sink units, shelving units.

Ensure the substrate is of a decent standard, properly preparing the substrate is one of the most important steps to the final look of the micro cement. A mesh is applied followed by a base coat and the final coats of the fino micro cement. The micro cement has a final coat of waterproof lacquer ensuring the product is protected.

This can be a smooth or textured finish with a huge variety of colours available to suit your personal taste.

The care of your micro cement is extremely important if you wish it to maintain its performance.

Here are a few tips for you to consider:

First 72 Hours:  Do not wash or wipe the floor with any product, it is essential to aerate the room steadily within this time period. Do not walk directly on top of application, do not pour liquids on surface avoiding colour change. Room temperature needs to maintain above 15 degrees Celsius.

First 7 Days: Cover the surface to protect from scratches and soil. You can very gently clean the floor using water. Avoid shock, items from falling and spillages. The temperature of the application should remain above 15 degrees Celsius.

First Month: During the first month you need to take care of the surface avoiding moving any heavy furniture that could scratch the floor. Clean with a mild soap and water or neutral detergent like the Easyfloor Cleaner. After cleaning the floor will probably be clarified, this is normal. Remember for the first month to keep the temperature above 15 degrees Celsius.

    Hola!! Bonjour!! Hello!!

Our applicators have just returned from their little Europe trip. Completing a project using various Italian Polished Plaster finishes and Spanish Micro-cement.

All the preparation work to be undertaken was completed to a high standard by the construction team. The construction team is excited on site to see these bespoke Italian Polished Plasters as they have not seen them applied by the Artisan hand until now

They are looking to use Spanish Micro-cement on future projects, our applicators will be back over at the beginning of 2016
